SERC Chile participated in this event through an interesting workshop where children could learn how to build a solar collector mirror.

Explora Party: Chile Natural Laboratory was held with an important attendance of schools and institutes in the Railroad Museum in Antofagasta.

SERC Chile and Universidad de Antofagasta participated in a stand which gave information about solar energy storage technologies and which also allowed the youngest ones to create a solar collector mirror with educational materials. Children and youngsters from different ages could build a mirror and had fun working with the material given in the stand, which allow them to see a practical application for this type of technology.

Ángel Fernández, post doctorate candidate of Line 4 (Solar Energy Storage, SERC Chile) commented on the importance of the activity. “It is possible to organize workshops that motivate children to learn more about science in an attractive and intelligent way, thus for them to see it as something that is always present in their lives,” he explained.

The Dean of Universidad de Antofagasta referred to the importance of this initiative, which allows the university to come closer to the community and to spread information about these relevant topics. “It is a partnership work between the university, academy, the community and services. As long as this alliance exists, children and everyone can learn about the importance of solar energy and how it could improve their life quality” he said.

SERC Chile stand also showed different presentations on storage applications of different molten salts, among other projects.
